Rebuilding Hyolmo Sustainability Culture, Climate and Quakes

Hyolmo Foundation organized one day talk program on the theme “Rebuilding Hyolmo Sustainability Culture, Climate and Quakes” on November 8, 2015. The Chairperson of the Foundation Mr. Nima Lama Hyolmo Chaired the program and Dr. Migma Nuru Sherpa the Chairperson of Mountain Sprit chaired as Guest speaker. Engineers Mr. Kumar Yonjon (the Board Member of HEAL Nepal and Engineer working on disaster area) and Mr. Rakesh Shrestha (Engineer from Pulchowk Engineering Campus) also chaired as guest. The Prominent social worker of Hyolmo Community Mr. Dawa Dorje Lama Hyolmo the former Chairperson of Hyolmo Gompa and Mr. Renjen Lama Hyolmo Chairperson of Setang Rebuilding and Conservation Committee also chaired as speaker guests. On the occasion The Chairperson of Nepal Hyolmo Social Service Association Mr. Suraj Hyolmo and the Coordinator of the Hyolmo Earthquake Rehabilitation Committee Mr. Kesang Lama Hyolmo also chaired as Guest on the program. The talk program is attend by 52 prominent personalities of Hyolmo indigenous people representing different Hyolmo organizations and some expertise from renowned organizations.

The Chairperson and representative of different Hyolmo Associations were also present at the talk program. A Khada is offered to the participant prior to the starting of the program.

The General Secretary of Hyolmo Foundation Mr.Tashi D Hyolmo initiated the program highlighting the main objectives of the program and also welcome all the participants.

The Chairperson of Hyolmo Foundation Mr. Nima Lama Hyolmo highlighted the need of the program to foster the integrated efforts to provide appropriate suggestion and needed technical and cultural supports to safeguard the cultural heritage of Hyolmo indigenous people while rebuilding the Hyolmo villages destroyed by the massive earthquake occurred on April 25, 2015.

The General Secretary Mr. Tashi D Hyolmo showed an power point presentation and introduced Hyolmo Foundation and highlighted the aims and objectives of Hyolmo Foundation, which was established on 1 November 1991. During the power point presentation Mr. Tashi D Hyolmo also clarified all the participant about the need of organizing the program and delineated the concept that Hyolmo Foundation had floored for the pervasive deliberation.

The engineer presented a power point presentation regarding the designing of the Merchha Kuma house.

Dr. Mingma Nuru Sherpa also presented a power point presentation regarding the Tamang Heritage project in Rasuwa and Sherpa cultural village in Solukhumbu.

Mr. Dawa Dorje Lama Hyolmo the Ex Chairperson of Hyolmo Gompa shed light on the need of preserving of the Cultural Heritage of Hyolmo Community and also shared the historical background of Hyolmo indigenous people and about the need to preserve the Merchha Kuma houses in Hyolmo region which is one of very important cultural heritage . Similarly Mr. Renjen Lama Hyolmo the Chairperson of Seta Reconstruction Committee also presented the designing maps of Merchha Kuma a Hyolmo traditional house with few house design options. He also descried internal setting of the house Merchha Kuma.

The Chairperson and Treasurer of Hyolmo Earthquake Rehabilitation Committee Mr. Kesang Lama Hyolmo and Mr. Nima Lama Hyolmo also expressed their opinion of the reconstruction of Hyolmo villages preserving the cultural heritage of Hyolmo community.

Before the closing of the first session of the talk program, Mr. Binod Lama Hyolmo commented on the outcome of the talk program.

After the lunch the Former Chairperson and Advisor of Hyolmo Foundation Mr. Dawa Lama Hyolmo expressed his views on the program and appreciated the effort made by the Foundation. Similarly The Chairperson of Nepal Hyolmo Society Service Association Mr. Suraj Hyolmo expressed his thoughts and also explained about Nepal Hyolmo Society Service Association activities and future planning of the Association and requested all the Hyolmo indigenous people to land their hand to materialize the anticipated goal set by NHSSA.

Other commentators were the chairperson of Nepal Hyolmo Women Association Mrs. Nima Yangchen Hyolmo, Chairperson of Nagshang Shakya Jangpo Dhungye Latsok Mr. N B Lama Hyolmo Acting Chairperson of Yolmo Kagud Latsog Mr. Tsering Lama Hyolmo and many. At last on behalf of Hyolmo Foundation Mr. Binod Lama Hyolmo presented the points drown after the deliberation.

The following are the points drown as conclusion of the Talk Program.

1. It is decided to request Hyolmo indigenous people to advocate for the rebuilding of their houses in traditional Hyolmo Merchha Kuma design in order to preserve the cultural heritage and entity of Hyolmo indigenous people.
2 It is decided to request Hyolmo indigenous people to heed on for the proper planning of the village prior to the initiating of the reconstruction process of the houses. And also decided to provide possible assistance for the planning of the village.
3 It is decided to request Hyolmo indigenous people to heed on for the environmental friendly village managing with proper space for the solid waste and also other social and environmental requirements.
4 It is decided to request Hyolmo indigenous people to heed on the cultural aspect of Hyolmo indigenous people while constructing social and religious buildings, like Schools, Gompas, health posts as well as other governmental and nongovernmental buildings in Hyolmo villageand region.
5 It is decided to get in touch with governmental and nongovernmental organization and advocate and lobby to preserve Hyolmo culture and tradition while rebuilding the village.
6 It is also decided to request Hyolmo indigenous people to encourage to rebuild their houses in cluster rather than single house.

At last the Chairperson of the Foundation expressed his thoughts and thanked all the guests and Chairperson and representative of different Hyolmo organization for the full day participation to the talk program despite their busy schedule. He also thanked to Dr. Mingmar Nuru Sherpa, Mr. Dawa Dorje Lama Hyolmo, Mr. Renjen Lama Hyolmo and Engineers for their important and meaningful participation. Similarly he expressed his heartfelt thanks to Hyolmo Gompa providing the vanue and Hyolmo Earthquake Rehabilitation Committee for sponsoring the program. And at last thanked all the member of Foundation for the wonderful participation to make the program meaningful and declared the closing of one day talk program organized by Hyolmo Foundation.
